 A Brief History Of The FAW Welsh Cup The Welsh Cup is one of the oldest cup competitions in the world and is a knock-out football competition contested annually by teams from Wales and, until 1995, neighbouring parts of England. Only Welsh teams playing in the Welsh league can now progress to the UEFA Cup through winning the Welsh Cup. The Football Association of Wales is the organising body of this competition, which has been run (except during the two World Wars) every year since its inception in 1877-78. In its current format, all games are played to a conclusion, with extra-time and penalties if necessary. The semi-finals and final are played at neutral venues. |
