![]() A Brief History Of Queen Anne Stakes The Queen Anne Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race for four-year-old and above thoroughbreds run over a distance of 1 mile at Ascot Racecourse during the Royal Ascot meeting in June. First run in 1840 as the Trial Stakes, the name was changed in 1930 to commemorate Queen Anne, the monarch who established racing at Ascot in 1711. With the introduction of the Pattern system in 1971 the race was given Group 3 status, which was upgraded to Group 2 in 1984, and to Group 1 in 2003.
