The Losail International Circuit lies on the outskirts of Doha, the capital city. Constructed in just 13 months at a cost of $58 million, it drew lavish praise for its impressive safety standards and facilities as well as presenting a considerable challenge for the riders. The most demanding feature of the WSB race is not the circuit layout, but the sweltering temperatures which can soar to in excess of 41 degrees C and track temperatures of up to 55 degrees. The track packs 16 corners into its 5.380 kilometres (3.343 miles), 10 to the right and six to the left, and its kilometre-long main straight sees top speeds of over 330 km/h (205 mph).
