Welcome To Navan Racecourse Navan Racecourse is 181 acres set in the heart of Co. Meath, from humble beginnings in 1920 Navan Racecourse has become a very special track in the minds of owners, trainers, jockeys and punters alike. Well established as an excellent pre-Cheltenham track, many of our greatest National Hunt horses have raced and won at Navan. 1999 was an exciting year for Navan Racecourse when it completed the first phase of its development and investment plan. The Proudstown Racecourse situated 2 miles from Navan town, 30 miles due north of Dublin City on the N3, had an extremely successful year with attendances and sponsorship all on the increase. Also in 1999, Navan was twinned with Newbury Racecourse. Continuing their success over the past couple of years, Navan has established itself as a racecourse with great racing, great hospitality and great fun. October 2000 saw david's Lad start his season at Navan by winning his first chase. He then went on to win the 2001 Irish Grand National and finished his season by winning at Navan. Navan Racecourse is primarily a National Hunt track and will play host to 16 meetings in 2003 between October and July. Some of its main racedays are "The McCabe Builders Ltd. Boyne Hurdle", which was won by Bannow Bay in February 2002. "Fortria Day" and its main meeting "The Pierse Group Troytown Chase" in November, named after the famous Aintree National winner who was bred close by, are two others. The Troytown Chase has been won by Lyrenn Wonder for the past two years. The track is well respected by owners and trainers who often prepare their horses here prior to Cheltenham. Often the horses who win at Navan, go on to perform well in major races in the UK. |
