Racing at Chester's historic Roodee course dates back to the early 16th century, making it the country's oldest racecourse. It is also one of the most appealing with views of the city walls, River Dee and the Welsh Hills. At 239 yards it also provides the shortest straight in the country

Chester Racecourse is south east of the town. Coming from the north or south take the M6/M56 and exit Junction 14, then follow the AA and RAC signs
By Rail
The Euston line goes direct to Chester General Station where you can pick up a bus to the racecourse on racedays

There are Tote and bookmaker facilities across the course
Parking
Car parking in the centre of the course costs £5 per car and £10 per coach/ minibus
Children
Children under 16 will be admitted for free when accompanied by an adult, excluding the County Stand
Disabled
The disabled may enter restricted areas free of charge with one companion. There is a viewing platform in the Paddock area where there are also toilet facilities.

The Turf Restaurant is situated in the Concourse room, which also has several bars and food outlets. The Long Room on the first floor serves light snacks and refreshments.
Viewing
This section has the most commanding views of the course, including overlooking views of the Winning Post. There is access to the Winner's Enclosure and the Parade Ring, via the subway
Dress
Men must wear a suit, jacket and tie. No jeans or trainers.

A low draw and a fast start give a distinct advantage in sprints



Left-handed, flat, just over 1m round with short run-in. Very sharp, not favouring long-striding horses.
