![]() A Brief History Of EDF Energy Cup The EDF Energy Cup is the national knockout cup involving 132 rugby clubs around the country, each fighting it out for the right to play on the hallowed turf of Twickenham for the EDF Energy Cup trophy. First played in 1972 under the sponsors John Player the competition has evolved over the years, and now today in the age of professionalism it still remains the premier domestic club knock out trophy. Starting in 2005-06, the cup featured a new format including only the twelve teams from the Guinness Premiership and the four regional Welsh clubs. Teams from National Division One and below now play for the EDF Energy Cup. |
